Today I sat in on a cool workshop about our writing program. I didn't stay long enough but the first hour was about ourselves as writers. One teacher talked about how she blogs and loves it. She joins into conversations and has a grand old time - actually got posted on CNN during one of the debates.

I realized how much writing I do - I think I write almost every 5 minutes. Not necessarily anything long or creative but I am writing email or taking notes all the time.

This workshop also took me back to when I was teaching - it has been 10 years since I taught - before standards and NCLB. I never taught under NCLB. That seems amazing to me. And lucky!!!

I used to do writing everyday with my students - we had author's chair every day at the end of school. It was very important to the kdis and the families - lots of parents would come for author's chair.

We also had an evening event where they read their final pieces to their parent s- it was very cool

I don't think of myself as a writer but I think I might be. I love to edit with others. I learned this as principal and especially at ISBE. I would write something and others would edit it. We worked together to come up with a better piece of work. I have friends who are writers - and are excellent with their pieces from the beginning.

Writing. It is an interesting part of living.

Let's talk

This is an interesting way to communicate - it is such a great gift for me - I love email and talking online.

I don't know where to start - so I'm going to begin with a simple one - "age" - since today is my 55th birthday, it seems fitting.

I am finding that 55 is a weird number - I don't like it. I think it is because it is one of those numbers that means you are "old". I now can order off the back page from Denny's - for seniors. 55 is the speed limit that is slow. It just sounds old.
